About the School of Industrial Engineering

Industrial Engineering integrates diverse disciplines, including mathematics, engineering, management, and economics, within a systematic framework to enhance the effectiveness and efficiency of small- and large-scale production and service systems across economic, cultural, social, and governmental sectors. The approaches employed in this field contribute to improved responsiveness, increased customer satisfaction, greater adaptability, continuous improvement in products and services, and enhanced profitability. Its problem-oriented approach and emphasis on developing solutions through creative systems thinking distinguish Industrial Engineering from many other engineering disciplines. This distinctive perspective has established Industrial Engineering as an interdisciplinary field that has also brought about significant transformations in other traditional engineering disciplines.

The Industrial Engineering program at Iran University of Science and Technology (IUST) was established in 1973 through the conversion of the Mechanical Engineering program, originally focused on machine manufacturing, into Industrial Engineering. The program's first graduates completed their studies in 1977 and were rapidly absorbed into the labor market, receiving a positive response from the country's industrial sector.

Following the quantitative and qualitative expansion of the School's educational activities in 1985, graduate education was introduced with one specialization in Industrial Engineering. Over the following decade, the number of master's degree programs and specializations increased to five.

Today, the School of Industrial Engineering is recognized as one of the leading industrial engineering schools in the Middle East. Its academic activities are organized into four departments:

1.     Industrial Engineering

2.     Intelligent Systems Engineering

3.     Productivity and Project Management

4.     Logistics Engineering

The school offers one undergraduate program, Ten master's degree programs and specializations, and two doctoral programs and specializations. Its curricula are developed in response to the needs of industry and the labor market, benchmarked against those of leading international universities, and designed to address the scientific and professional needs of Iran and the wider region.
